In this forum, we are looking to hear from you. Share your recent (or not-so-recent) experience with Priority Wrecker Service Inc. We've been there too, so don't be afraid to share any and all details!
I don’t normally make it a point to speak of bad experiences/dealings with businesses on social media. In fact, this is the first time I can recall ever doing so. But my experience today has certainly encouraged me to make others aware of the scam artists that these people are. I would encourage everyone to get the word out and not do any business with these people. Maybe we can save the next person from getting taken advantage of. Here’s my story…
Our company does a lot of business in Nashville. Friday, we had one of our trucks break down in the Nashville area. Typically, we would send one of our drivers to pick the truck up and bring it back to Chattanooga. Friday, both of our drivers were out on runs and that was not an option. One of our supervisors made the decision to call this wrecker service (Priority Wrecker Service in Franklin and La Vergne TN) being that they were close by. He was told that the charge would be $4,777.75 to haul our F-450 pickup and attached trailer back to our shop in Chattanooga. Our supervisor then called his boss (our operations manager) who turned around and called the wrecker service back. He was told $4,777.75 to deliver the truck and they would only accept cash (no checks, no credit cards). Our operations manager explained that… A. that price seems high to haul from La Vargne, TN to Chattanooga and B. our office was closed for the day and there was no way he could have that money in cash available to the driver when he showed up. The wrecker service replied saying the only other option was to take the truck to the impound lot. Our manager told him if that’s the only other option, we would have to do that until Monday.
The rest of the story came today (Monday). Our same supervisor, who originally called the wrecker service, calls back today to arrange getting our truck out. $4,392.25 was the price the wrecker service told him to release our truck from the impound lot. He wrote that number down. Mind you, they were going to haul the truck to Chattanooga for $4,777.75. Our supervisor passes the message along once again to his boss (our operations manager) who comes to me today and tells me what’s going. We call the wrecker service back in my office. $4,392.25 is the number we are told once again (we both hear it and write it down on a piece of paper once again). Cash only. No credit cards, no checks. As frustrated as I am, feeling like I’m totally being taken advantage of with this pricing, I agreed to get it over with and we sent our driver after the truck with an envelope of cash.
Our driver gets there roughly two hours later and calls us back. “They want another $500 on top of what I brought to release the truck”. I’m totally floored at this point. I ask to speak with the guy on site at the wrecker service. He tells me that the guy we spoke to before told us the wrong amount and we were $500 short. I basically replied, reminding him that their miscommunication wasn’t our problem, we were being overcharged to begin with, and we don’t have $500 extra to give (again they are demanding cash. They won’t accept a card, saying they have no way to run one, even though they show on their website that they accept cards). They absolutely refused to release the truck without $500 extra. My driver had an invoice, showing where we paid what was originally requested ($4,392.25) and that there was $0 owed. But their reasoning was that there was a trailer hooked to the truck which called for an additional $500 “release-gate fee”. I tried my best to reason with the guy, reminding him of the entire situation up to this point, what we were told, and the fact that we can’t make $500 cash appear out of thin air. Once I saw that wasn’t going anywhere, I had to make arrangements with one of our Nashville employees to drive over there with $500 out of his pocket to get this thing settled. In the meantime, I called the La Vergne police department and explained what was going on to see if there were any other options. As I expected, it was a civil matter and nothing they could do. Long story longer, they got their extra $500 against my better judgement and our truck was released.
Avoid these people at all cost. I decided after my horrific experience that I would do my best to keep someone else from going through this same thing. They are scam artists. I would imagine that the IRS would be interested to look into their cash only scheme as well. In reading some of their reviews, I’m not the first person to receive this kind of treatment. Please share this post, most certainly if you are around the Nashville/Murfreesboro/La Vergne area. Businesses that operate this way deserve what they have coming to them.
